Open Payments is a national disclosure program from CMS that promotes a more financially transparent and accountable health care system.

Drug and medical device companies must report to CMS payments or transfers of value they make to certain health care providers, including Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Anesthesiologist Assistants, and teaching hospitals for research, meals, travel, gifts, speaking fees, and more.

Each year, CMS makes the data available to the public at openpaymentsdata.cms.gov.

Are You Ready for Open Payments?

Nurse anesthetists will be a part of the upcoming Program Year 2021 Open Payments data! In 2021, the Open Payments definition of a covered recipient expanded to include nurse anesthetists. This means certain interactions that nurse anesthetists have with reporting entities may now be reportable for the purpose of Open Payments. You should familiarize yourself with the program and learn about what may be collected and reported about you. The data collected in Program Year 2021 (January 1–December 31, 2021) will be published in June 2022. Check out our available resources to learn about the program, your role, and how to stay up to date with Open Payments information!

CMS’ role is to collect and publish information submitted by reporting entities. CMS does not offer an opinion on what financial relationships may cause conflicts of interests. Simply, CMS publishes the data for public use and interpretation.
